2009 Porsche Carrera Coupe Review The Porsche 911 remains the iconic symbol of a sports car. For 2009, the 911 Carrera's have revised styling, increased engine power and now offer an optional seven-speed dual clutch gearbox (PDK). According to Porsche, the fastest 911 Carrera trims are the S and 4S Coupes when equipped with PDK can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The trims with the highest top speed are the 911 Carrera S Coupe and Cabriolet, which max out at 188 mph when mated to a six-speed manual transmission. With a new range of direct-injection petrol engines and clever seven-speed dual-clutch gearboxes, the 911 has overnight become one of the world?s cleanest high-performance cars. Equip the basic Carrera with the new PDK gearbox and it will return 29mpg on the combined cycle and emit just 225g/km of CO2. The EPA reports the 911 Carrera's city/highway fuel economy ranges from 18/25 mpg to 19/27 mpg, depending on trim and transmission. Trim Levels and Options The Porsche 911 comes as either a coupe or a cabriolet in either a rear-wheel drive (C2) or an all-wheel drive (C4) configuration and each 911 comes as either a Carrera or the performance variant Carrera S. The 911 Carrera C2 and C4's are powered by a 345-hp 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine and the 911 Carrera C2S and C4S's are powered by a 385-hp 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine. The 911 Turbo models come with a 480-hp twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine. Each 911 engine is either mated to a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic Tiptronic S transmission. The Targa, with its innovative glass-paneled roof has the same powertrains as the Carrera C4 and C4S models The track derived GT3 is powered by a 415-hp 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine and comes exclusively as a rear-wheel drive coupe with a six-speed manual transmission. The 911 Carrera base-trim, 4, and Targa 4 feature a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 345-horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 288 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. Meanwhile, the more powerful 911 Carrera S, 4S, and Targa 4S are equipped with a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that makes 385-horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 310 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. For all models, drivers may choose a six-speed manual transmission or the new Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) -- which features seven-gears, manual gearshift, and an automatic mode. And the base car?s torque output climbs to 287lb ft while its big brother now churns out 310lb ft of twist action.
